From Times Staff Reports

Federal officials will conduct two meetings next month in Simi Valley to explain how former Rocketdyne employees can seek compensation for cancers or lung diseases they believe they contracted on the job.

Up to 6,000 former nuclear research workers at Rocketdyne’s Santa Susana Field Laboratory could be eligible for one-time settlements of $150,000 and medical coverage.

Officials of the departments of Labor and Energy will answer questions about the new compensation program for those workers who contracted certain illnesses in tests conducted during the Cold War.

The meetings will be held at 1 and 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at Posada Royale Hotel, 1775 Madera Road.

Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) arranged the meeting and received a commitment from the government to establish a satellite office where sick workers can receive assistance filling out forms and obtaining medical tests.
