From Times Staff Reports

Valve problems caused two sewage spills in two days, including a 15,000- to 30,000-gallon spill in Thousand Oaks and a 20-gallon spill in Port Hueneme, environmental health officials said Wednesday.

The larger spill was reported about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by a city worker who found raw effluent overflowing a manhole on Lawrence Drive and running into the Arroyo Conejo. A valve left partly open was to blame.

Signs warning people to stay out of the creek were posted up to 1 1/2 miles downstream, and will remain until Friday afternoon.

About 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, a valve problem caused 20 gallons of sewage to spill into a storm drain on Channel Islands Boulevard. The drain leads to Mandalay Bay, but it was unclear if the sewage reached the waterway.
