Mobile Phone Sales Down in 2nd Quarter

Shipments of mobile phones fell sharply in the second quarter, and manufacturers Motorola Corp. and Ericsson grabbed market share from leader Nokia, research group Gartner Dataquest said. Global shipments of mobile phones from manufacturers to distributors in the second quarter fell 7.2%, to 89.76 million units, from the first quarter.

Market leader Nokia of Finland saw its market share slip to 34.8%, from 35.3% in the first quarter. Motorola came in second with a 14.8% share, compared with 13.2% last quarter. No. 3 Ericsson from Sweden climbed to 8.3% from 6.8%.
