Procession Honors Virgin’s Feast Day

Hundreds turned out Sunday in Santa Ana for the annual kickoff of the feast day for Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The day is celebrated by Mexican Catholics every Dec. 12. But the feast begins 10 days earlier with a large procession through the streets.

Sunday’s procession featured dancers in colorful Aztec costumes, young people dressed up as monks, a painted portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a Mexican band.

Along the way, volunteers acted out various portions of the celebrated story of the apparition of the Virgin Mary to a poor Indian peasant in the area that is now Mexico City.
