Justice for Boy’s Killers Sought
About 250 residents gathered Thursday night at St. Andrews Recreation Center in South Los Angeles, where 13-year-old Marquese Rashad Prude was shot to death Nov. 28.
Many of the angry residents demanded that city officials bring the killers, who have not been identified, to justice.
“We have clues . . ., Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas told the crowd. “We are going to turn up the heat. Everybody expects something to happen on this.”
Before the meeting, a few dozen residents, along with police Chief Bernard Parks, Mayor James Hahn and several council members, walked several blocks handing out leaflets with a hotline number people may call to offer information about the killing.
Several council members promised to ask the City Council on Monday to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to the killers.
Sharon Brown, the slain child’s mother, said she had “heard no solutions tonight. Every word isn’t going to bring my son back.”
