Lot Eyed for Governor’s Estate
State officials are considering buying a 40-acre parcel along the Sacramento River for a state park that could include a new governor’s mansion.
California governors have been without an official residence since Ronald Reagan moved out of the downtown Victorian home that had been used by the state’s chief executives for decades.
Since then governors have lived in leased houses or apartments.
The site under consideration is in West Sacramento, near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers.
Rusty Areias, director of the California Department of Parks and Recreation, says talks about buying the site have been underway for about two months.
