1st Property Tax Installment Due Today
The deadline for paying the first installment on Ventura County property taxes without facing a costly late fee is 5 p.m. today.
Those who miss the deadline will be assessed a 10% penalty, based on the amount of the tax owed, said Larry Matheney, assistant treasurer-tax collector for Ventura County.
Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than today.
About 70% of 231,000 property tax bills sent out have been paid, Matheney said.
The second round of property taxes will be due Feb. 1, with the penalty assessed after April 19.
