Trojan Turnovers Amount to Notre Dame Win, 62-49

Defending national champion Notre Dame forced 27 turnovers and defeated USC, 62-49, Sunday afternoon in a women’s basketball game in front of 7,595 at South Bend, Ind.

The Irish (3-4) extended their home winning streak to 41 games, the longest active run in the nation.

Tiffany Elmore scored 11 points for USC, and Ebony Hoffman and Aisha Hollans each had 10. The Trojans (3-5) shot 32.8%.

Notre Dame freshman forward Jacqueline Batteast led all scorers with a season-high 19 points.

Notre Dame is the defending national champion.

Diana Taurasi matched her career high with 24 points to lead top-ranked Connecticut (10-0) past No. 8 Louisiana Tech, 74-50, at Hartford, Conn. Connecticut held Ayana Walker to eight points, nine below her average. She led the Lady Techsters (2-3) with eight rebounds.

Chantelle Anderson scored 24 points to help No. 4 Vanderbilt (10-1) win its fourth in a row with an 84-74 victory over Temple (2-4) at Philadelphia.... Gergana Slavtcheva’s 20 points led Florida International (6-2) to a 75-72 upset of No. 12 Colorado (6-1) at Miami. Ashley Augspurger scored 26 points for Colorado.

Michigan’s LeeAnn Bies scored a career-high 27 points and made two free throws with 10.7 seconds to play, lifting the No. 16 Wolverines (7-1) over Washington, 71-70, in the Pac-10/Big Ten Challenge at Seattle. Loree Payne scored 23 points for Washington (5-4).

Chanivia Broussard scored 23 points as Miami (5-2) upset No. 17 Texas, 57-55, at Miami. Tracy Cooks appeared to make a game-winning three-point basket as time expired for Texas (6-1), but it was waved off after officials watched a replay.
