Increased Death Benefit Sought for Retirees

Ventura County supervisors Tuesday will consider a request to increase death benefits for retired county employees.
The Ventura County Employees Retirement Assn. is asking supervisors to increase the current $1,000 lump-sum payment to $5,000. The new benefit would cost an estimated $8 million, which would be drawn from a surplus in the county’s retirement system.
