Power Line Work Causes Brief Blackout

A brief blackout hit a small section of downtown Orange on Wednesday when Southern California Edison workers shut down a power line.
A section of the city bordered by Chapman and La Veta avenues and Main and Shaffer streets lost power at about 8:37 a.m., affecting about 1,000 homes and businesses. Workers shut down the line during routine maintenance, a company spokeswoman said.
About 25 people called police, worried that the outage was caused by rolling blackouts related to statewide power shortages.
Traffic signals came back on after about 10 minutes, and power was fully restored within 30 minutes, Orange Police Lt. Bob Green said.
