Vivendi Division to Fill Former IXL Space

One of the largest blocks of Los Angeles area office space to be vacated by a retrenching dot-com company has been filled, the landlord said. The 100,000 square feet previously occupied by IXL Inc. at Howard Hughes Center in Westchester will be occupied by Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing, which sells entertainment and educational software. Vivendi signed a 10-year lease for the space at 6060 Center Drive, according to owner Arden Realty Inc. Financial terms were not disclosed, but its value is believed to be significantly more than the $40-million figure in the 10-year agreement that IXL signed with Arden early last year. IXL vacated four floors in December as part of a corporate restructuring in which the company closed a number of offices throughout the country. Vivendi’s education division is expected to move in from offices in Torrance and Glendale in May, Arden said. At least half a million square feet of Westside office space was vacated in the last six months by failed or floundering dot-coms.
