Judge Receives Statewide Honor

Share

A Ventura County Superior Court judge has received a statewide award for his community outreach efforts.

Judge Charles Campbell is the 2000 winner of the Benjamin Aranda III Access to Justice Award. The award recognizes trial judges or appellate justices who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to improving access to the courts for low- and moderate-income Californians.

Campbell joined the bench in 1988, and served as presiding judge from 1998 through 2000.

He spearheaded the development of a self-help program for residents who cannot afford attorneys and supported the court’s mobile self-help center.

He also began a series of community forums throughout Ventura County and is forming a local committee that will respond to grievances from people who believe they have been subjected to bias from the court.

Campbell received the award this week in San Diego during the California Judicial Administration Conference.

The award is sponsored by the Judicial Council of California, State Bar and California Judges Assn.
