Church Plans ‘Bread of Life’ Dinner

* All Saints Episcopal Church in Oxnard will hold a “Bread of Life” dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. today in the parish hall.

On Sunday, a communion worship service will be held at 8 a.m. A Spanish-language worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Also, Sunday school classes for children ages 5 to 12 begin at 10:30 a.m.; youth Bible study for junior high and high school students begins at 11 a.m.

Methodists Continue Sermon Series

First Presbyterian Services

* Pastor James K. Bain Jr. will deliver the sermon “Help for Life’s Storms” at 10 a.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard. The message will be based on the scriptures Genesis 6:11-15 and 22, and I Corinthians 11:18-29.

Church Offers Band-Led Worship

* Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Thousand Oaks on Sunday will present an installment of a new monthly service that features a high-energy, band-led worship with contemporary praise music and a message by Associate Pastor Dana Shaw. The 10:45 a.m. service is held the first Sunday of each month.

On Wednesday evening, the church will hold the fourth installment of an eight-week course designed to introduce the basics of the Christian faith. Titled “ALPHA,” the weekly sessions include dinner, a short video presentation, small group meetings and question-and-answer sessions. Courses are held each Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The course work is designed to appeal to those who are curious to know why Jesus Christ is considered to be the Messiah.

Jewish Academy to Hold Seminar

* The Conejo Jewish Academy on Sunday will present the seminar “The Curtain Parts: A Glimpse Into the Spiritual Cosmos,” featuring author-philosopher Rabbi Manis Friedman of St. Paul, Minn. Friedman will discuss five major Jewish and Kabbalistic concepts: the soul, reincarnation, life after death, the Messiah and the Resurrection. 8-Week Aramaic Workshop

* Pleasant Valley Church of Religious Science Center for Positive Living will offer an eight-week workshop on using the language of Jesus (Aramaic) in everyday living.

Beginning Tuesday, the Rev. Larry Vogel will lead the installments using translations by scholars who speak Aramaic. The goal of the program is to better understand “what Jesus really taught us.” The installments will be held Tuesdays through March 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 per session.

Recording Artist to Perform

* Christian recording artist Jonathan Rundman will share a message through pop music at the 10:10 a.m. Wednesday chapel service at Cal Lutheran University’s Samuelson Chapel.

Rundman, a performer from the Midwest who tours nationally, will return to the chapel at 7:30 p.m. to play with the band Echelon. Both programs are free.

* GriefShare, a recovery seminar and support group, meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at Ventura Missionary Church.

The program features nationally recognized experts discussing grief and recovery topics.
