Naming Justice Complex for Judge

* Re “Board to Name Youth Justice Complex for Judge,” Jan. 22.

On behalf of hundreds of high school educators, alumni and students in Ventura County, I would like to lend my support for the naming of the Ventura County juvenile justice complex in honor of Justice Steven Z. Perren.

In addition to his many years of service as a juvenile court judge and his advocacy for other youth-oriented causes, Perren has truly distinguished himself through his leadership of the Ventura County Mock Trial program. His vision and determination have given high school students the opportunity to experience our legal system in a unique manner. Mock trial participants have gained an appreciation for justice and, for some, the inspiration to pursue a legal career.

By naming the new juvenile justice complex for Judge Perren, the Board of Supervisors will be establishing a reminder to all Ventura County citizens of the personal commitment and dedication of an outstanding person.

The words “Perren Center” should inspire each of us to provide for the needs of our youth, for they are the hope of tomorrow.
