* The Federal Trade Commission has requested more information regarding PepsiCo Inc.’s proposed $14-billion acquisition of Quaker Oats Co., which makes cereal and Gatorade, the leading sports drink. The companies did not say what information the agency had requested but said the move by the FTC, which must approve the deal, had been expected.

* San Francisco-based Catholic Healthcare West, which operates 47 hospitals including St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles and St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, said it is cutting about 350 mainly administrative jobs as it faces higher medical costs and lower reimbursements from insurers.

* Ryder System Inc., the largest U.S. commercial truck leasing company, said it plans to cut as many as 700 jobs, or 2% of its work force, this year.
