Woman, 3 Children Survive Air Crash
A woman and her three children spent the night in near-freezing temperatures in the wreckage of their chartered plane after a crash-landing on fog-shrouded Beaver Island killed the pilot and co-pilot.
Mirth Gault and her children were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter crew, which lowered a bucket to lift the family to safety.
Gault, 42, and her 9-year-old daughter Emma were listed in fair condition at a hospital. Her sons, Adam, 13, and Alec, 5, were in good condition.
The twin-engine turboprop went down with no indication of trouble from the crew. It was flying in misty weather with low clouds and limited visibility.
