Washington Sweeps Past Arizona State

Megan Franza scored 21 points to lead Washington to a 79-60 upset over No. 23 Arizona State at Seattle on Saturday.

The victory gave the Huskies, 15-6 overall and 8-3 in the Pacific 10 Conference, a sweep of the season series against the Sun Devils, and the teams are tied for first place with Stanford.

Melody Johnson scored 19 points for Arizona State (16-7, 8-3), which has not won in Seattle since 1996.

Washington State 93, No. 19 Arizona 86--Yvonne Volkman had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cougars to an upset against the Wildcats at Pullman, Wash.

After trailing by as many as 10 points, the Wildcats (16-7, 6-5) came back to tie the score, 82-82, with 3:37 remaining.

Volkman answered on the next possession with a three-point basket, and she converted three free throws down the stretch to seal the win for the Cougars (9-12, 4-7).

LaKeisha Taylor scored 23 points for Arizona, which after starting the conference season 4-0, has lost five of seven Pac-10 games.

Stanford 87, Oregon State 76--Lauren St. Clair scored a season-high 24 points, including a career-high six three-pointers to lead the Cardinal (14-7, 8-3) over the Beavers (11-10, 3-8) at Palo Alto.

Lindsey Yamasaki scored 19 points as the Cardinal moved into a first-place tie in the Pac-10 with Washington and Arizona State.

Stanford has won seven in a row, and matched its school record with 14 three-pointers led by St. Clair’s six-for-11 performance.

California 68, Oregon 57--The backcourt of Courtney Johnson and Kenya Corley combined for 39 points to lead the Bears over the Ducks at Berkeley.

For the second consecutive game, California (10-11, 6-5) fought back from a second-half deficit to end a 15-game losing streak to struggling Oregon (12-9, 5-6), which has lost four in a row and six of seven.

Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds and six steals. Corley scored all of her 19 points in the second half. Ami Forney had a game-high 16 rebounds.

No. 8 Louisiana Tech 67, Western Kentucky 52--Takeisha Lewis had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Techsters (21-4, 12-0), who extended their streak of consecutive regular-season conference victories to 47 games with the Sun Belt Conference win against the Hilltoppers (15-9, 7-5) at Bowling Green, Ky.

No. 9 Iowa State 81, Kansas State 52--The Cyclones (20-2, 10-1) put the game away early with a 25-0 run behind 20 points from Angie Welle and Megan Taylor for the Big 12 Conference victory over the Wildcats (11-11, 1-10) at Ames, Iowa.

No. 10 Oklahoma 76, Oklahoma State 47--Caton Hill had 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Sooners (19-4, 10-1) to their 10th consecutive victory in the Big 12 game at Stillwater, Okla.

Oklahoma led, 45-39, with 10:25 remaining in the second half and put the game away with a 28-4 run. Oklahoma State (12-10, 4-7) got only 16 points from its starting five.

No. 21 Texas 63, No. 11 Texas Tech 57--JoRuth Woods and Kenya Larkin each scored 15 points for the Longhorns, who ended the Raiders’ home winning streak at 41 games in the Big 12 victory at Lubbock, Texas.

Amber Tarr of Texas Tech missed a three-pointer in the final minute, and Texas (18-7, 6-5) hit four of six free throws to secure its first victory in Lubbock since 1993.

Before the loss, Texas Tech (18-4, 9-2) was tied with Kent for the nation’s longest home winning streak.

No. 12 Rutgers 97, Providence 68--Karlita Washington scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (17-5, 9-2) to the Big East Conference victory at Piscataway, N.J.

Kristin Quinn led Providence (8-13, 2-9) with 16 points.

No. 17 Utah 74, Nevada Las Vegas 43--Lauren Beckman had 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Utes (20-2, 9-0) in the Mountain West Conference game against the Runnin’ Rebels (14-7, 4-5) at Salt Lake City to extend their win streak to 11.

No. 19 Colorado 81, Nebraska 65--Sabrina Scott had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Buffaloes, who ended their three-game losing streak with the Big 12 victory over the Huskers (10-14, 2-9) at Lincoln, Neb.

Jenny Roulier added 14 points for Colorado (17-5, 8-3), which had not won in Lincoln since 1997. Shahidrah Roberts scored 14 points for Nebraska, which lost a school-record fifth consecutive home game.

Loyola Marymount 64, San Diego 42--Bryn Britton scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lions (16-7, 7-3) to a home-court West Coast Conference victory over the Toreros (8-13, 3-7).
