A 41-year-old man was found dead inside his apartment Tuesday and police, who believe the death was due to natural causes, were investigating whether his home had been burglarized, authorities said.

The man, who was not identified pending notification of relatives, was found by neighbors about 3 p.m. in the 2700 block of South C Street, authorities said.

There were no signs of trauma to the body and the man apparently had a history of medical problems, police said. A coroner’s deputy estimated the man had been dead more than a week.

When officers arrived they found the apartment in disarray, leading them to believe the premises may have been burglarized, Oxnard Police Cmdr. Lee Wilcox said.

“There was no indication of a homicide, but we are investigating whether there was a break-in after the body was found or before,” Wilcox said.

The neighbors, who were concerned about the man’s welfare, found his front door open when they arrived, police said.
