Claremont 64, Simi Valley 46--The Wolfpack (21-7) led the entire way of a second-round game.

Claremont, which tied with Glendora for second place in the Baseline League, held 6-9 Dustin Villepigue to 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“We wanted to make sure that we always had two guys on him and make the other guys hit from the outside,” Claremont Coach Mike Bateman said.

The Wolfpack also displayed brilliant shooting, rebounding and quickness.

Micah Lombard scored 12 of his 16 points in the first quarter, when his team surged to an 18-9 lead, and Sean Terrell scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, when the Wolfpack finished off Simi Valley (20-9).

Jered Weaver led Simi Valley with 16 points.

It was a frustrating ending for Simi Valley, which reached the Division I-A championship game last season.

“They had a lot of weight on their shoulders with last year’s team,” Simi Valley Coach Christian Aurand said. “But we won 20 games and I don’t think a lot of people thought we’d do that.”
