Thulin Just in Time for Edison Victory

Share

Edison’s Brooke Thulin made the most of a bad day, scoring a pivotal goal and setting up another in the Chargers’ 3-0 victory over host Newport Harbor Tuesday in a Southern Section Division II girls’ soccer second-round game.

Thulin, the Chargers’ leading scorer, missed much of the first half after attending the funeral of her grandmother and entered the game at the 20-minute mark.

She made an impact almost immediately, throwing in to defender Katie Shield, who passed the ball to Jane Wyche in the Sailor penalty area. Wyche’s shot hit a Newport Harbor defender, popped high into the air and landed in the net to give the Chargers (21-1-5) a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes gone.

“It gave us a big lift when she got here,” Edison Coach Kerry Crooks said.

Newport Harbor finished 12-7-4.
