Three men suspected of shooting a man outside a Simi Valley home Tuesday during a carjacking attempt began following him immediately after he had closed his Compton pawn shop earlier that evening, authorities said Wednesday.

David Makiri, 65, of Simi Valley was treated at Simi Valley Hospital and then transferred to another facility, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

His three alleged attackers, Donnell Deshaun Allen, 20, Jose Alex Rosales, 23, and Tyrus Cardell Potts, 25, all of Compton, were booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder in connection with the 7:15 p.m. shooting, Simi Valley Police Lt. Ken Tacke said.

All three were taken to the Simi Valley Police Department for questioning Tuesday night and booked at Ventura County Jail on Wednesday.

The men were arrested about 45 minutes after the alleged carjack attempt, which police said occurred outside the home of a friend of the victim. The arrests came after a low-speed chase that began on the Ronald Reagan Freeway and ended on the San Diego Freeway.

Officers from the Simi Valley and Los Angeles police departments as well as the California Highway Patrol took part in the pursuit.

Authorities said three men approached Makiri as he got out of his car in the 500 block of Elvado Drive. They demanded his keys but he instead tossed them into the car, Tacke said.

Makiri was shot in the right leg during the incident, police said.

Officers found Makiri’s briefcase in the suspects’ car but did not recover a gun, authorities said.

Allen and Potts were being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, and Rosales was being held in lieu of $510,000 bail. All three will be arraigned today in Ventura County Superior Court.
