10,000-Acre Blaze Closes Interstate

Firefighters tried to control a 10,000-acre swamp blaze in Polk County that has shut down part of Interstate 4 in central Florida. “We’re looking at a few months of these kind of conditions,” said Wayne James, the incident commander for the fire.
The blaze is 70% contained by fire lines but is days away from being extinguished. It started 40 miles northeast of Tampa as a trash fire and is the state’s largest this year.
The interstate, which connects Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach, will be closed at least through the weekend or until burned trees are removed.
