Northridge Women Continue Losing Skid at Montana, 74-55

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team lost its fifth consecutive game Friday night, falling to Montana, 74-55, at Missoula, Mont., in a rematch of last season’s Big Sky Conference tournament final.

The Matadors (9-16, 5-8 in Big Sky play) remained in sole possession of the conference’s sixth and final playoff spot, a game ahead of Eastern Washington, which lost to Idaho State on Thursday.

ReShawnda Richardson had 17 points and nine rebounds for Northridge. LaShaunda Fowler had 10 points.

Cheryl Keller had 14 points, and Laura Valley had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Montana (17-8, 9-5).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Long Beach 82, Antelope Valley 77--Brady Chelette had 22 points for the Marauders (16-16), who held a 44-35 edge in rebounds but lost in a Southern California Regional first-round game at Long Beach.

Chelette made eight of 20 shots, including five of 15 three-point baskets.

Les Norman made 11 of 19 shots, including four of seven three-point baskets, to finish with 27 points for Long Beach (20-12).

BASEBALL

San Diego 9, CS Northridge 8--Jason Allec hit three home runs, driving in four runs, and Robert Smith hit his fourth home run for the Matadors (9-6) at Northridge in the opener of a three-game series.

Jason Marian and Tony Perez had ninth-inning solo home runs off reliever Mike Frick (1-1) that allowed San Diego (6-6) to overcome an 8-7 deficit. San Diego hit four homers off four pitchers.

Allec had two solo home runs and a two-run shot, his first homers of the season. Smith had a two-run homer in the first inning.

SOFTBALL

CS Northridge 3-2, Bradley 0-0--Utah transfer Sarah Farnworth struck out nine batters en route to a perfect game, the first of a round-robin doubleheader at the Loyola Marymount tournament.

Farnworth (4-2) had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run. Sondra Milchiker had three hits for the Matadors (7-4).

MEN’S TENNIS

Pepperdine 4, Texas 3--Sebastien Graeff and Stefan Suter’s 9-7 win over Jorge Hari and Jose Zhari clinched a nonconference victory for the Waves (8-3) at Pepperdine.

TRACK AND FIELD

Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships--Nick Garcia of Cal State Northridge won the shot put at 56-5 3/4 in the first day of the two-day meet at Montana State.
