EMI Offers Capitol Job to Manager

Share

British music giant EMI Group has offered to make veteran manager Andy Slater president of Capitol Records, sources said, signaling a shake-up at EMI’s flagship label. Slater would replace EMI’s U.S. Deputy President Roy Lott, who has been running the label for the last two years on a temporary basis after the exit of former label chief Gary Gersh. Sources said Lott is to retain an executive post at the company. Under Lott, Capitol claims the No. 1 spot on the nation’s pop chart this week with the Beatles’ “1,” but is lagging its rivals in selling current hits, claiming just a 3.95% market share for sales of new releases, according to SoundScan. The shift atop Capitol comes as EMI is in negotiations to merge with German conglomerate Bertelsmann, which could trigger yet another round of executive changes.
