From Times Wire Reports

Rep. Nita M. Lowey (D-N.Y.) will chair the House Democrats’ campaign arm for the 2002 election, House Minority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) announced, making her the first woman to hold the post. Lowey’s appointment, which must be approved by the full House Democratic caucus, means that both the House and Senate Democrats’ campaign operations will be headed by women. Senate Democrats chose Patty Murray (D-Wash.) as chairwoman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee last month.
