Democratic Legislation

Share

* So the Democrats will run the House and Senate for 17 days before the official swearing-in (“Democrats to Get Senate’s Reins for a 17-Day Trot,” Dec. 31). I’d like to see them push through as much legislation as possible, including things we’ll never get from the Republicans, like real campaign finance reform. Republicans have shown by their behavior (from the Supreme Court all the way down to Florida sheriffs who intimidated African American voters) that common decency and “the right thing to do” were never an option.

Let’s face it. George W. Bush did steal the election, Al Gore did get more votes, but through legal wranglings and political favoritism, Bush will be in the White House. Well, the Democrats will completely rule the roost for 17 days--fair and square. I say, let Democratic legislation begin.
