Motorola Inc. promoted three executives to lead two newly formed units in a bid to improve profitability. The new units--Personal Communications, Networks Sector and Global Customer Solutions Operations--will replace the Communications Enterprise unit, which accounted for 70% of Motorola’s business. . . . Vault.com Inc., which offers “insider” information for those preparing for a job search, said it laid off 33 people, or about one-third of its staff, in a move to stay on track to achieve profitability by the end of the third quarter. The New York-based company is privately held. . . . Hotel Reservations Network Inc., which brokers discounted hotel rooms primarily over the Internet, agreed to buy online site TravelNow.com Inc. for about $47.4 million, or $4.16 a share. Hotel Reservations and its parent, USA Networks Inc., had acquired a 9.9% stake in TravelNow.com last month for about $3.2 million. TravelNow rose 44 cents, or 12%, to close at $4.06 on Nasdaq.
