Systems management software maker BMC Software Inc. named Robert Beauchamp as its new chief executive, a move that follows the company’s announcement earlier this week that it expected third-quarter earnings to beat forecasts. Beauchamp, 41, replaces Max Watson, who will remain chairman until April. Beauchamp will retain his title as president of the Houston-based company. Beauchamp has served in a variety of roles at BMC over the last 12 years, most recently as senior vice president in product management and development. Watson, 55, will step down as chairman on April 30 and remain an employee serving in an advisory capacity until April 2002. He has been with the company for 16 years, 11 of those as chief executive. He also is the company’s largest shareholder. BMC fell 50 cents to close at $21.81 on Nasdaq.
