President Clinton told Democratic Party workers Monday night not to be discouraged that the Republicans won the White House or cynical about the Supreme Court decision to halt vote counting in Florida.

“This country is going to be just fine,” Clinton said. None of the progress of the last eight years could have been achieved without the party workers’ devotion to the “nitty gritty” of politics, he added.

“This is a political system we live in,” Clinton said. “The framers of the Constitution expected it to be that way and didn’t think politics was a bad word. They thought it was a good word and so do I.”
