O.C. Water District Directors Sworn In

Municipal Water District of Orange County officials swore in elected directors this week, making the seven-member board the first to serve a newly consolidated agency.

By joining with the Coastal Municipal Water District, the MWDOC becomes the second-largest member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, officials say. The wholesale water agency provides imported water to all of Southern California, including 2 million Orange County residents.

The directors will officially take their seats at a board meeting Jan. 17.

The process of expanding from five county divisions to seven started four years ago when there was pressure from the state to consolidate, MWDOC spokeswoman Erin Cohn Curtis said.

“This allows us to coordinate planning efforts with everyone in order for there to be enough water in the future and of a suitable quality,” Curtis said.

Taking the oath of office Monday were Brett R. Barbre of Yorba Linda, Larry D. Dick of Orange, Wayne A. Clark of Irvine, Ed Royce Sr. of Stanton, Eric Bakall of Tustin, Joan Finnegan of Costa Mesa and Susan Hinman of Dana Point.

The agency also educates users on efficient water use and provides emergency coordination programs.
