Mayor’s Race
* Re “Latino Candidates Running Despite Fear of Split Vote,” Jan. 10: How presumptuous of L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina and Henry “Texas-born” Cisneros to attempt to limit my choices for our next mayoral election. These types of closed-door meetings and political deals are what have led to so many unremarkable Latino “leaders” in public office. They seem to think that a Latino, any Latino, in office is better than none.
I commend Rep. Xavier Becerra for holding his ground, and I’d like Molina and Cisneros to know that if they remove the one Latino candidate that I’m leaning toward voting for (I won’t say whom), this Latina will probably end up voting for one of the non-Latino candidates. Anyway, isn’t it a sign of our community’s progress that we have more than one strong Latino candidate for such a prominent office?
