Free Speech for All Drivers to See
With churches posting humorous, controversial or inflammatory messages on their marquees to attract new members (“A Holy Whimsical Sign Language,” Jan. 9), once again we see the fine line between “Constitution-protected free speech” (which is what “we” do) and “pushing an agenda” (which is what “they” do).
Pastor Don Wallace, who posts antigay slogans on his church sign, clearly relishes the opportunity to “preach at people driving by.” Hopefully Mr. Wallace understands that free speech works both ways. I’m still waiting to see this on a stadium marquee: “We don’t play football in your church; please don’t pray in our stadium.”
