Second Round of Job Cuts at NBC Internet
NBC Internet announced a second round of deep job cuts as it braces for a slowdown in online advertising. The additional 150 layoffs represent about 30% of the company’s work force. The San Francisco-based company said it had earlier forecast total revenue of $150 million for this year, but that a cooler climate for online advertising would trim that figure to about $100 million. The company in August slashed 170 jobs as part of a strategic revamping that involved retiring several brand names such as Snap and halting an acquisition drive. The company’s shares, which had traded as high as $106.13 a year ago, closed down 19 cents at $4 on Nasdaq.
