Student Affairs Chief Appointed at CSUN
A University of Nevada, Las Vegas, administrator has been appointed vice president for student affairs at Cal State Northridge, a position that oversees a range of services, from the football team to dormitory life.
Terry Piper, 48, outgoing assistant vice president for student life at UNLV, said Thursday that he brings a record of persuading student leaders to infuse moral, community-based standards into campus democracy.
He also created programs that encouraged various ethnic and sexual-orientation groups to collaborate on projects, he said, adding that the experience will help him adjust to Northridge’s diverse student body.
“Based on what I know and understand about Northridge at this point, there’s a tremendous opportunity to bring in new ideas,” Piper said.
His term begins March 12.
Piper replaces interim Vice President for Student Affairs Fred Strache, who took over in 1999 when Ron Kopita resigned after he was criticized for dismantling four men’s sports programs, and a women’s basketball coach was convicted of conspiring to distribute cocaine.
