Blues--Attention, blues fans! Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, and the Paladins will perform Friday and Saturday nights, respectively, at Cozy’s in Sherman Oaks. * Comedy Fund-Raiser--Famed 1960s comic Shelley Berman will headline “Comedy Nite 2001,” an annual fund-raiser for Hillel at Pierce and Valley colleges, Saturday at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Berman started out studying classical drama at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, but became an early member of the Second City improvisational comedy troupe that served as a training ground for such comic talents as Elaine May, Mike Nichols, John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd. Berman scored three gold comedy albums and won a Grammy in 1959. Today, he teaches humor writing at UCLA and performs occasionally with Yarmy’s Army. * Baroque Music--The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra will present an all-Baroque concert Saturday at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Four chamber orchestra soloists and music director Jeffrey Kahane will perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Three Violins, Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in F minor, Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen Suite,” Telemann’s Trumpet Concerto in D and Handel’s “Water Music.” Soloists will be Rachel Purkin, Josefina Vergara and Jacqueline Brand on violins, David Washburn on trumpet and Kahane on harpsichord. * Chamber Music--The Burbank Chamber Orchestra will perform works by Mahler, Ravel and Debussy on Saturday evening at the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn in Burbank.
