The Governor’s Energy Troika

Share

To help steer California out of its electricity crisis, Gov. Gray Davis has named a trio of unpaid, high-powered advisors with a wide range of experience and styles.

Composed of a folksy advocate of public power, a pin-striped Republican crisis manager and a seasoned utility executive, the team will have a major hand in changing the way California handles electricity.

After the team was announced this week, the stocks of the parent companies of Pacific Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison began to pull out of their weeks-long tailspin. Analysts partly credited the governor’s announcement of the advisors.

“I don’t think these guys would get involved if they don’t think something positive will get done here,” said Merrill Lynch utility analysts Steve Fleishman.
