Paul McCartney has picked David Kahne, whose credits include Sugar Ray and Sublime, and who serves as head of A&R; for Warner Bros. Records, to produce his next album, with a two- or three-week recording schedule set to begin in mid-February. This will be McCartney’s first album of original songs since the death of wife Linda from breast cancer in 1998. . . .

While in Australia filming a starring role in the movie “Queen of the Damned,” Aaliyah also did the bulk of recording for her next album, due in March or early April. She’ll continue recording in New York before returning Down Under to act in “The Matrix” sequel. . . .

A live version of the Living End’s “Prisoner of Society,” a KROQ-FM (106.7) staple since the 1999 release of the Australian band’s debut album, will be added as a bonus track to the U.S. release of the group’s second album, “Roll On,” due in late March. . . .

Aaron Neville will make a special appearance at the House of Blues’ weekly Sunday Gospel Brunch on Feb 18. performing songs he contributed to HBO’s “Boycott.” Premiering Feb. 24, the movie dramatizes the events surrounding Rosa Parks’ refusal to relinquish her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955. Neville has a small role in the film as well.
