America Is Fed Up With Celebrities

Share

Regarding “A Paparazzo’s Lessons on How Stars Are Born,” (Jan. 18): Author Peter Whittle must be referring to those right-wing fanatics Bill and Hillary, whom movie stars flocked to, slobbered over and forked over their fortunes to. Or perhaps he means those cranky right-wingers who always sponsor anti-death-penalty and anti-gun-owner rallies, and whose political blather, frozen in the 1960s, is indecipherable outside their cliquish circles.

Yes the public is sick of hearing celebrity political pronouncements, reading stories about their illegitimate babies and various shack-ups, and listening to ther views on “what is wrong with America” (which never extends to their own business). Yet celebrities themselves are caught in this celebrity obsession, desperate to be associated with other celebrities.

Whittle’s disgust with the obsession of mass media with celebrities is shared by most Americans--who find the blowhard politicos, including religious and legal representatives who never met a camera they didn’t like and entertainment-industry gas bags--a hoot and an annoyance.
