* Homestore.com Inc. in Westlake Village has hired Richard F. Sommer, former chief executive of MedChannel Inc., as managing director / corporate senior vice president of international operations. In this newly created position, Sommer will explore opportunities to extend Homestore.com’s business overseas.

Homestore.com operates a network of real estate Internet sites.

* Leonard D. Schaeffer, chairman and chief executive of WellPoint Health Networks Inc. in Thousand Oaks, has been named one of the top 25 managers of 2000 by Business Week magazine. The list, which includes CEOs from a variety of industries, was published in the Jan. 8 edition of the magazine.

Business Week said WellPoint offers small employers more health plan choices than other insurers. WellPoint also was cited for its strong earnings growth and significant stock price appreciation in 2000.

* Amgen in Thousand Oaks has named two new executive vice presidents.

Roger M. Perlmutter will lead the biotechnology company’s research and development organization. George Morrow will assume responsibility for Amgen’s worldwide sales and marketing activities.

Perlmutter was formerly executive vice president for worldwide basic research and preclinical development at Merck Research Laboratories. Morrow was most recently president and chief executive in North America for Glaxo Wellcome Inc.
