This William Pereira-designed house has been used in many movies, TV series and photo shoots, not only because of its 13-acre grounds adjacent to a 1,300-acre nature preserve, but also because of its dramatic, modern look. Pereira designed the Transamerica tower in San Francisco and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
About this house: For sale publicly for the first time in 50 years, the 1951 house has a sense of mystery and privacy about it, yet it already has been featured on camera this year for the movies “Swordfish,” starring John Travolta, and “Tomcats,” starring Jake Busey, as well as the new HBO series “Six Feet Under.” The house appears in about half of the show’s first 13 segments, including tonight’s episode.
There also was a photo shoot of Harry Winston jewelry for a spread in Vanity Fair. “They brought up $150 million in jewels,” said Jim Fox, who handles filming for the owner, whom he would identify only as “someone in entertainment. We try to keep it all extremely private.”
The post-and-beam house can hardly be seen from the street despite its 9,000-square-foot size and the fact that it is perched on a knoll. Designed for large-scale Hollywood-style entertaining, the house is in Chatsworth and has neighbors in the Chatsworth Nature Preserve such as great horned owls and Canada geese.
Asking price: $7.3 million.
Size: With a total of six bedrooms and 61/2 baths, the main house has three family bedrooms and a master suite with two baths. The home also has a guest house with its own pool.
Features: The main house has a 20-foot-by-50-foot pool with a mountain range as its backdrop. The living room has 40 feet of glass doors that open onto a covered terrace.
