Orbitz Debuts Among Top 10 Travel Web Sites

Orbitz, the Internet travel site owned by five U.S. airlines, rocketed to fifth place among the most popular travel sites in its first full week of operation (June 4 to 10), then dropped to No. 8 in its second week, according to statistics from Jupiter Media Matrix, which monitors traffic on the Internet.

For the week ending June 17, http://www.orbitz.com drew nearly 900,000 visitors--more than http://www.hotwire.com but below http://www.americanexpress.com (about 3.5 million), http://www.travelocity.com (about 2.6 million) and Expedia Travel (an aggregate of domains, including http://www.expedia.com, at nearly 2.2 million).
