A storm sent a large tree crashing down on spectators at an outdoor concert late Friday, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 85 others, police said.

The victims were among about 120 people at a Yiddish music show at the Chateau de Pourtales near Strasbourg, about 250 miles east of Paris.

Violent winds forced organizers to interrupt the show and ask spectators to take refuge under a tarp. Then high winds knocked the plane tree into the tarp, crushing spectators, police said.

About 100 firefighters and 30 doctors were on the scene. Dazed concert-goers wandered aimlessly in the rain, as the rescuers carried victims away on stretchers.
