NAACP Chief Links Bush to ‘Taliban’ Politics
The chairman of the NAACP accused President Bush of choosing nominees from the “Taliban wing of American politics” whose devotion to the Confederacy is “nearly canine.”
Julian Bond told the group’s convention in New Orleans Sunday: “Bush selected nominees from the Taliban wing of American politics, appeased the wretched appetites of the extreme right wing, and chose Cabinet officials whose devotion to the Confederacy is nearly canine in its uncritical affection.”
Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said the remarks go too far and symbolize the need to change the tone of national discourse.
