J.R. Rider probably will not play for...

J.R. Rider probably will not play for the Lakers’ summer-league team, General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.

Rider, who volunteered for the team hoping it would improve his chances to re-sign with the Lakers, told club officials he was tending to personal business for the last several days and therefore was unable to participate in practices or games.

“It probably does not make sense for him to join the [summer-league] team at this point,” Kupchak said.

Kupchak spoke to Rider’s agent, Arn Tellem, through the weekend.

Rider is a long shot to sign with the team in the fall, but Kupchak would not entirely dismiss it.
