Pat McKernan, 60, longtime president and general manager of the Albuquerque Dukes minor league baseball team, died Tuesday in Albuquerque of cancer.

The Dukes, for many years the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top farm club, are part of the Pacific Coast League. The team was sold last year and moved to Portland, Ore.

McKernan, who “worked 365 days a year” and “loved working,” said his son, former Dukes Assistant General Manager Patrick McKernan, devoted himself to running his restaurant, Pat’s Place, after the team left town.

A native of LeRoy, N.Y., McKernan moved to Albuquerque from Pittsfield, Mass., in 1979 to be president and general manager of the Dukes. At the time, he was Eastern League president, a job he kept for three more years while running the Albuquerque team.
