Re “Oakland’s In-Your-Face Ads Invade San Francisco,” July 9: In the vacuous catalog of irrelevancies, the so-called rivalry between San Francisco and Oakland rates a double zero. However, San Francisco would win, only by default. Oakland is burdened with the insufferable plague of the Raiders.

As a former San Franciscan, I got a real kick out of the story about the pro-Oakland ads taking digs at San Francisco. I can testify to the cold weather and highway-robbery rents in San Francisco that have sent people across the Bay Bridge to seek refuge. But in my case, I kept driving south and didn’t look back.
