Death and Darwinism Ride the Rails

Share

Re “Surge in Urban Train Traffic Brings More Deadly Accidents,” July 9: Your headline is misleading. It’s not the number of trains, the speed of the trains or the population density that is responsible for these deadly accidents. This is a case of stupid people making stupid choices and paying the price.

If some idiot wants to risk his life by ignoring existing warning signs around train tracks, why should we do anything? It is ludicrous that we waste our time, energy and precious tax dollars to help curb the moronic behavior of a minuscule portion of our society that will never learn. Ever.

We should use the superfluous safety measures that already exist, and nothing more. Then let the chips fall where they may. There will always be fools in this world, and it is inevitable that some fools will make choices that will result in their deaths. There is nothing we can do about it. This is survival of the fittest. This is Darwinism in all its efficiency.
