From Times Wire Reports

A key House panel overturned President Bush’s proposal to eliminate contraceptive coverage for federal employees, virtually ensuring that the benefit provided to 1.2 million women in the government work force since 1998 will remain.

Twelve Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee joined 28 Democrats in voting to require federal health insurance plans to cover a broad range of birth control for women of childbearing age, and the amendment’s backers said they were confident they could defend their position on the House floor if it came to a vote.
