Clear Channel to Test Online Ticketing Club

Share

Clear Channel Entertainment, the nation’s largest concert promoter and venue owner, is test- marketing an online ticketing club as a potential source of income.

The promotion giant, formerly called SFX, will charge $29.95 for a one-year membership in the club It’s Better Live/Access.

Consumers who join will receive access to online pre-sales, discounts and the chance to purchase tickets held back from retail outlets by the promoter, venues or artists. Subscribers also receive two free tickets to a selected concert.

Fans who sign up will have access to online chat rooms and bulletin boards and may be invited to pre- or post-concert parties.

The venture could build Clear Channel’s database of customers, enabling the company to target ticket promotions at fans in particular cities. It also could help Clear Channel unload tickets to poorly selling concerts.

The online club is being tested in San Francisco, Boston, Houston and Raleigh, N.C. Clear Channel Entertainment is a unit of San Antonio-based Clear Channel Communications, the nation’s biggest radio broadcaster.
