In Brief

The Kentuckian mines her Appalachian musical and familial roots in this consistently spirited and heartfelt traditional bluegrass excursion. She's left behind the emotional detachment that sometimes mutes her country records as she sings songs--several of which she and husband-producer Emory Gordy Jr. co-wrote--about struggles with subsistence, love and faith for people like her mountain kinfolk.
